It’s been a crazy few weeks for me: I got married a month ago today, spent two weeks gallivanting around the Maldives and Dubai, then have spent the past two weeks settling into my new life in Cape Town. A big chunk of that has been devoted to setting up my new blog, The South AfriKhan, where I’ll be posting daily (I hope) snapshots into my new life in South Africa. I’ll still update this page with my latest articles, but I hope you’ll also continue to check www.southafrikhan.com regularly and follow my adventures there as well!
In the May issue of my alma mater, Travel + Leisure, I reported on the best overwater villas around the world—from the Maldives (where I just had my own honeymoon in a sumptuous stilted suite above a crystal-clear lagoon at the W Maldives) to Bora-Bora. Read my piece, “Watershed Moments,” here!
My Travel + Leisure roundup of the world’s most colorful stories has been picked up by CNN Travel – check it out here!
I interviewed the likes of design legend Roberto Cavalli and celebrity stylist extraordinaire Rachel Zoe for the April issue of Vogue India, to learn more about that ever-enduring fashion trend, animal print. Quite a fitting story for me to have out the week I move to South Africa! Raaarrr.
I left Travel + Leisure after a wonderful 4.5 years earlier this month to get ready for my transition to Cape Town, so it’s fitting that my first piece as an official full-time freelance writer is for the old alma mater. Check out my round-up of the world’s most colorful cities!
I wrote this essay, “Credible India: After gang rape, the tourism industry assures female travelers they are safe,” on the impact of December’s brutal Delhi gang rape on tourism in India. It appears in qz.com, a sister publication to the Atlantic.
I spent an afternoon last summer on the sets of a photo shoot that Big Bang Theory‘s Kunal Nayyar and his lovely wife, former Miss India Neha Kapur, did for the February issue of Vogue India. It was a lot of fun, not only because I got to watch the newlyweds have a blast all over the streets of Manhattan, but because they were so adorably, hopelessly in love. It was inspiring, to say the least – so inspiring, in fact, that I got some advice from the duo about my own budding romance with a guy I’d just met in South Africa… to whom I’m now engaged! So Mom, in case you’re still trying to figure out why I’m moving to Cape Town, blame Kunal and Neha. Here’s my interview with the couple, and their gorgeous 13-page photo spread.
Lucky me – I flew back from India at 4am on January 1, just in time for them to have restocked the airport bookstores with the January Vogue India—which meant I got to see my two stories in the issue hot off the presses, for a change! Inside you’ll find my travel feature on glorious Cape Town, my soon to be home (breaking news, you heard it here first!), as well as a two-page story (touted on the cover, below) on how to adapt tricky trends to any body type, with insights from Hollywood stylist Jeni Elizabeth.
Happy holidays! I’m off to India this week, and I couldn’t be more excited—but if you’re looking for other interesting ways to spend Christmas, check out my take on a Roman Holiday for the December issue of Vogue India!
