Travel + Leisure: Could An Oil-Drilling Ban Save Virunga’s Gorillas?

The situation in Uganda, the DRC, and Rwanda is pretty grim for the region’s endangered mountain gorilla population. Many of you may have seen the documentary Virunga, about oil-drilling efforts in the DRC; the outrage generated from that Leonardo DiCaprio-produced film forced UK firm SOCO to abandon its oil exploration contracts in the region. But things aren’t looking up yet: I reported on the latest on efforts to pressure the Ugandan government to stop soliciting bids for oil contracts in the Lake Edward region. It’s a complex issue, but you can read more about it here.
