New York Times: Chasing Elusive Flowers in South Africa
In this weekend’s New York Times Travel section, you’ll find a full-page feature I wrote on a unique natural phenomenon in South Africa that results in a typically dry region erupting in a rainbow of flowers every August and September. I had a great time reporting the piece (and it’s accompanied by beautiful photos courtesy of South African travel writer Justin Fox). Read it here!
New York Times: In Cape Town, Local Color Comes in Bright Shades
I have two pieces in this weekend’s New York Times — my story on shopping in Mumbai’s Bandra neighborhood in T magazine, and this one in the Travel section, a spotlight on my favorite Cape Town neighborhood, Bo-Kaap. Read it here.
Travel + Leisure: Best Places to Eat Like a Local
My favorite issue when I worked at Travel + Leisure was the annual Food Issue, and before I left T+L debuted an epic Eat Like a Local package, filled with insider tips from around the world. This year I contributed in a small way, with my pick for Cape Town’s Charly’s Bakery under Best Desserts to Try Around the World. Read it here.
New York Magazine: Escape from Your Vacation
New York magazine’s spring travel package is out in this week’s issue. The theme is “town and country” – vacations where you can experience city life and country charms, all in one. I wrote about Cape Town and Paternoster, a beautiful sleepy beach town an hour and a half away, along with a few other area gems: Bartholomeus Klip in the Riebeek Valley, Grootbos near Hermanus, and Gondwana Private Game Reserve on the Garden Route. Read it all here.
National Geographic Traveler: A Pot of Design Gold in the Rainbow Nation
Keep an eye out in this month’s issue of National Geographic Traveler (US edition) – I have a story on the revival of Cape Town’s Woodstock neighborhood. Read it here.
