My “Call Me Maybe” Video Hits HuffPo, Perez Hilton

…So this is crazy.

A fun video my friend Asma Sethi and I made during the festivities at Sana Ahmed and Mohsin Memon’s big fat Indian-Pakistani Muslim wedding in St Louis a few weeks ago… has gone viral!

In just a few days, it’s been picked up by Divanee Weddings, Huffington Post, and the king (or queen?) of all celebrity bloggers, Perez Hilton!

We had cameos by all of our friends who flew in from New York, the groom’s parents, the imam, a baby, and many others. See if you can spot me! (hint: sometimes my hair is curly, sometimes it’s straight)

NYT: A Conversation with Author Azad Essa

When I was in South Africa two months ago, the locals I was hanging out with told me I should read a book by their friend, Azad Essa. Essa is Al-Jazeera journalist whose book Zuma’s Bastard, a hit in South Africa last year, was updated and released by HarperCollins India in April as The Moslems Are Coming. I came back to New York and made quite a spectacle out of myself, bursting out into fits of maniacal giggles while reading it on the subway, in parks, and at countless other very public places. This provocative, witty book is definitely my pick for summer must-read – check out my Q&A with Essa to learn more.
