I’ve been a fan of British-Lebanese journalist Zahra Hankir’s work for years, and when she set off around the globe to report her new book, Eyeliner: A Cultural History, out today, I followed her travels with fascination. The ambitious book is a sweeping look at the history, ubiquity, and significance of this cosmetic throughout the east, and she visited Japan, India, Chad, and Jordan to understand its importance in those varied cultures. I interviewed her for Vogue–read it here.
