The situation in Uganda, the DRC, and Rwanda is pretty grim for the region’s endangered mountain gorilla population. Many of you may have seen the documentary Virunga, about oil-drilling efforts in the DRC; the outrage generated from that Leonardo DiCaprio-produced film forced UK firm SOCO to abandon its oil exploration contracts in the region. But things aren’t looking up yet: I reported on the latest on efforts to pressure the Ugandan government to stop soliciting bids for oil contracts in the Lake Edward region.
