I thought I was only desi girl who fears driving! This was beautifully written and explains this transition in life well. In particular, our desi parents will give up everything to ensure we have every need met. Despite being oldest, and being 29, my mother and father still worry about my health and what saree I am wearing to a party. It is good to see that you took the time to take care of your father.

That is a wonderful essay. It's an experience I don't want to have but sometimes wonder will happen. Like you, I'm the youngest of the family and my parents are at that age when they'll start leaning more and more on their children. Hope all is well!

My friend thinks that to get your attention I should comment on your blog. But I have to read your blog to comment. So I thought id read the first and last paragraph. I did that and I couldn't make a connection. Or one well enough to not seem like an idiot. so Gimme a sec ...Okay. My first thought was why would my friend be reading this blog, he doesn't care much about bollywood, and I actually didn't know much about bollywood until later in high school where a friend of mine was very interested in going to this theatre that showcased bollywood films. I found them to very over exaggerated in and could see repetitive patterns such as randomly singing. I found that to be quite amusing when I would joke about how bad they are. I don't know why, I guess I didn't want to admit that I actually liked the movies.

I grew up Seventh-day Adventist. My wife is Indonesian Muslim. In Columbus, Georgia, we went to the local Al-Jannah Masjid, but there were no other Indonesians in the crowd of about 200 to 400 people.

My wife made lamb curry meal for Sunday, and my Monday lunch at work, and I took two extra for my boss and a coworker.

I'd give a whole helluva lot to have seen that scene! Great article and beautiful picture. The poor kid probably has a problem with last season's Seven for All Mankind jeans.
