One of the highlights of my time at Condé Nast Traveller Middle East was working with the region’s incredibly talented writers and photographers, including Saudi photographer Tasneem Alsultan, who shot a wonderful photo essay for me following a group of female motorcycle enthusiasts around Riyadh. So I was thrilled when Afar asked me to interview her for a piece to accompany a collection of her dynamic photography documenting this rapidly changing period in then Kingdom’s history. I also wrote a personal essay about my childhood in Saudi Arabia to accompany our conversation.
