I’ve long wanted to write about the most difficult trip to Hyderabad I’ve ever taken: my first visit back after my grandmother, who was synonymous with the city for me, passed away. When my editor at the New York Times asked me to write about a memorable trip, that somber return was the first thing that came to mind. It’s online now as part of a collection with three other essays by some wonderful writers (and was even selected as the Times’ “The Great Read” today), and will be in print this weekend. You can wait for the hard copy, or read it here.
